CLARE, Eleanor J. (née RUTTER) - On March 17, 2014, our beautiful mother passed away at 90 years of age with family by her side. Mom had a happy and abundant life. She made a difference in this world in many ways: always a kindness to strangers, her cookie jar stocked with her famous cookies for all the neighbourhood kids.

Mom and dad enjoyed a fruitful 55 year marriage. Together they raised 5 children, Tom, Jane, Jim, Mike (Gerrianne) and Judy (Keir). Eleanor also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Reed, Steven, Jaime, Brian, Meghan, Emily, Valerie, Clare and Stephen; as well as 3 great-grandsons, Ross, Declan and baby Liam.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Rupert Clare in 2003; her only sibling James Rutter in WWII; and son-in-law Pat Stopa in 2013.

Mom loved summers at our family cabin she named El Fiasco, winter holidays in Hawaii, world travels with special friends, a good gin and tonic, water colour painting, cuddles with new grandbabies and of course, a great bridge hand. Mom; dad and your dear friends have your bridge table waiting for you in the sky – happy travels. We know how lucky we were to have you as a mom, grandma and friend.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Canterbury Court and Grandview for their care and kindness.

A Memorial Service will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011-114 Street, Edmonton. (Connelly-McKinley Funeral Homes.

Eleanor's brother, Coder James Andrew Rutter, died on 08 Aug 1944 when his ship, HMCS REGINA, was torpedoed and sunk off Trevose Head, Cornwall, England by U-667.
