HOPPS, June Dorothy (née PAKE) - In the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 20th, June passed on to be with her husband, Cecil. She is survived by her son, Larry (Cheryl); her sister, Ellison Boyce; her brother, William Pake; grandchildren, Chad (Daniel), Lance (Casey), Lindsay; step-son, Brian (Michelle); as well as 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Kamloops, BC, June was born to Edith and James Pake and grew up in Rosedale, BC. She joined the Navy and became a tele-coder. Upon her discharge, she moved to Port Alberni to join her parents and was employed as a secretary in the paper mill. She met her soon-to-be husband there and a year later gave birth to her son, Lawrence Wayne. In later years, after many moves on the Island, June and Cecil settled in Schooner Cove. June was an avid bridge player, golfer, and a snow bird. She spent around 35 years in her beloved Yuma, where she made many good friends. June was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she rose to the rank of Worthy Matron. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of the Douglas View wing at Stanford Place in Parksville. At June’s request, there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Covenant House Vancouver in memory of June. (The Alberni Valley News 20 Sep 2016)
