Born: 06 May 1934, Toronto, Ontario

Died: 12 May 2023, Barrie, Ontario

EDWARDS, Ronald Charles - of Barrie, Ontario, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023, at 89. After several years of declining health, Ronald died peacefully with his beloved wife Norma and their children by his side.

Ronald was born in Toronto on May 6, 1934, to father Charles and mother Violet - the second oldest of seven children. As a young man of 20, he and two friends impulsively decided to enlist in the Canadian Navy; however, Ronald was the only one to follow through on that decision. He served five years with an honorary discharge on August 9, 1959. At that time, he started work as a Senior Meat Buyer for Steinburg's in Toronto, Ontario. This led to many employment opportunities in the food industry as a buyer. Ronald purchased Chamber Foods in 1967 and ran the company until he sold it in 1971. In 1971 he joined St. Lawrence Foods Limited in Markham, Ontario, as the Vice President of Purchasing, helping the company to grow into a nationally known food distributor for the next 20 years. Retirement was hard for Ronald, who had a quick wit and a quick mind. This led him to open ASI Distribution Services in 1992, eventually becoming Denison Cold Storage in 1997. Ron was the Past President of the Fish and Seafood Association of Ontario and the Past Executive of the Ontario Frozen and Chilled Association.

Ronald was always the life of any get-together and enjoyed having his family and friends around, most recently at his 89th birthday party. He loved his Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs. We will all remember his great sense of humour and this, "That's what she said last night!"

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Isabella Hope. He is survived by his wife Norma; children Michelle (Brian), Nadine (Don), James (Leona) and John (Claire); his sister Shirley (Bruce); brothers Harry (Daisy) and Allan (Paquo); sister Marilyn, brother Robert (Lois), and sister Joy (Earl; grandchildren John, Rachael, Allison, Maddison, Charlie, Abigail, Austin, Daylon, Cecilia and Spencer, and many nieces and nephews.

At his request, there will be no funeral. Instead, there will be a Celebration of Life on June 3, 2023 commencing at 2:00 p.m. at Nadine and Don Miller's residence.

People wishing to honour Ronald may do so with a donation to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 147, 410 St. Vincent Street, Barrie, Ontario L4M 4A6. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Adam's Funeral Home. (The Simcoe County News 18 May 2023)
