GREENFIELD, Garry Dale - North Sydney. With heavy hearts we, the family of Garry Greenfield, announce his passing on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 in Northside General Hospital, with loved ones by his side. Born in Viceroy, Sask., on Sept. 17, 1942, he was a son of the late Gunhild and Albert Greenfield. Garry moved to Coalfield, as a child and lived there until 1963, when he joined the Navy. He worked in the engine room until sustaining a back injury. The back injury caused Garry to have to leave the Navy but his love of the water drew him to another nautical career at Marine Atlantic where he worked in the engine room for 15 years. Garry loved playing darts, 501 specifically, and very humbly claimed “you know, I was pretty good”. His love of darts was trumped only by his passion for hunting and fishing. Garry was an avid sportsman who displayed his trophies with pride. During the summer months he could be found camping at Lake Ainslie with his wife. Garry is survived by children, Debbie Greenfield (Carrie), Glenn Greenfield, Janice Greenfield (Darren), Diana Greenfield (Kurt), and Garry Greenfield (Cindy); 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way. Garry was predeceased by his wife, Mary Lou Greenfield; his brothers, Allen, Wayne (Adeline) and Arnold (Shirley); and his grandson, Neil. Thank you to the wonderful staff on 4 West of Northside General Hospital; Dr. Alex Wawer, and the staff at Cape Breton Cancer Center. Garry was very well taken care of, and as comfortable as he could be during a very difficult time. There will be no visitation or service by request. Direct cremation to take place followed by a scattering of ashes in Garry’s favorite hunting spot. Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J.
