KNAPMAN, Ronald David - Obituary:February 28, 1929 – June 25, 2023, of Halifax. Our dear, beloved husband, father and grandfather (“Buppy”) passed away at the age of 94, at home, with his wife of 69 years by his side. Born in Saint John New Brunswick, Ron was the son of Arthur and Lillian Knapman. After losing his Mom at a young age, he was sent to Upper Jemseg to work on a farm owned by George and Sadie Hendry. What began as a summer job, turned out to be a three-year stay, where he attended school and was treated like one of their own. In 1945, at 16 years old, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy and had a distinguished career which lasted 25 years. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer Second Class. It was early in his career while posted in Corner Brook Newfoundland, that he met his future wife Hope Moss. They married and lived in Corner Brook for two years until he was transferred to Halifax where they resided until his death. With a grade nine education, he attended night school while still working, and completed an accounting degree (RIA) from King’s College. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for the Federal Government as an auditor, for 17 years. Although he travelled extensively with both jobs, he found time to volunteer as Treasurer for Fairview Minor Hockey, for many years. Ron is survived by his wife, Hope; daughter, Wanda (Graham White); sons, David (Valerie Beaton), Wayne (Heather Quinn); and grandchildren, Lesley Crowell (Dustin), Neil Knapman (Brittany), Ben Knapman (Ashley), Jeffrey Knapman and Jacob Knapman. Dad dearly loved nature, gardening, and all of the family pets. He and Mom especially loved wintering in Spain, and their summers at the cottage in Cow Bay. They enjoyed the company of friends young and old, from all around the world. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dad’s memory to the Canadian Wildlife Federation, or Canada’s Naval Memorial Trust/HMCS Sackville. A Time to Remember will be held in Atlantic Funeral Home, Halifax, 6552 Bayers Road on Thursday June 29th, from 6-9 p.m. “A man would be a damn fool to leave all this!” (The Saltwire Network 27 Jun 2023)
