Frederick Wallace (Fred) Shaw

Leading Seaman, RCN

Died: 21 Nov 2022, Chester, Nova Scotia

SHAW, Fredrick Wallace - "If you're going to have a story, have a big story, or none at all." Joseph Campbell.

Fred passed away November 21, 2022, in Chester, NS. He loved beer and tequila, warm tropical climates, cigarettes, beautiful women, old war movies, tea and his Mom. He disliked spending money, superficiality, most fruit and power failures. Fred came from humble beginnings in Glace Bay, NS, where he left at a young age to spend eight years in the Navy as a Leading Seaman. He decided that he didn't like being bossed around and that he'd live by his own rules, nobody else's... not even his own. He ventured to the Yukon where he worked as an Avionics Technician for several years. Fred fell in love along the way, married at a young age and had a daughter, the apple of his eye, but things didn't work out. He loved life and action, and the call of the worlds great adventures was too strong. Fred found his true calling in sales, he lived to "make the deal". He worked as a General Sales Manager for a large firm supplying mobile housing to the oil industry and was relocated to Malta where he worked and travelled extensively throughout the Middle East. He loved being an ex-pat. Fred could be cranky as hell but he was also kind and caring. He enjoyed spending quality time with people, talking, imbibing, debating and playing tennis, pool and chess. He was handsome, fun loving, intelligent, witty and endlessly charming. He was also a "straight shooter" and you always knew where you stood with him. Fred received great pleasure piloting snowmobiles, motorbikes, convertibles and boats and owned many over the years. He loved animals, particularly his adored dog Daisy, who he took on motorcycle rides and was definitely head of the household. Fred could charm the socks (and other items) off of almost anyone he met. He had an endless supply of hilarious stories, and you could be sure that 50% of every story was most likely true, you just never knew which 50% it was. Fred died on the high seas during a powerful storm while rescuing a young bride to be who had been captured by pirates... or maybe not. We all know he liked to tell a tale. Fred leaves behind daughter, Shelly Shaw; two brothers; Norbert "Butch" Shaw (Betty) and Hector Shaw (Kate), and is predeceased by brother; Jack Shaw (Mary Lou). Throughout the years Fred collected many lifelong friends. They and his surviving family members loved and will cherish him, forever. Goodbye Dad, we love you to bits!
