Alan Broomhead

BROOMHEAD, Alan - Age 83 of Bedford, Nova Scotia. It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Broomhead on May 9, 2023, at Camp Hill Memorial Hospital after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

 

Alan was born in Toronto to the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Jones) Broomhead on June 9, 1939.

 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the love of his life, Zelée (Harrington) Broomhead and daughters, Andrea (Kevin Briand), Leslie (Wayne MacIntyre), and grandchildren Sarah Briand (Matt Trace), Kathryn Briand (Robbie Walker), Jessica Briand (Jeff Goodwin), and Kenzie MacIntyre along with many nieces and nephews. Alan was predeceased by his siblings, Isabelle, Edna, Thomas, Elizabeth (Terry Gallagher), Patricia (Doug Ball) and Ernest (Jean).

 

Alan joined the Navy as a young man and was proud of his service. After serving he was involved in the Elevator Industry, retiring as an Inspector for the NS Dept. of Labour. Alan was a natural athlete. He enjoyed playing hockey, swimming, and golf. Alan enjoyed playing golf at Oakfield Golf and Country Club where he was a member for many years. He was also a gifted craftsman. He was very proud of building the family’s first home in Lr. Sackville. In his home in Bedford, he had a large workshop where he spent many hours building furniture for his family and items for the church. He also enjoyed travelling with his wife, visiting many countries throughout the world. Alan was very involved at St. John Vianney Parish in Lr. Sackville where he served as an Ordained Deacon officiating at many Baptisms and Weddings. Alan was most proud of his family. He was involved in all aspects of their lives. He was always ready to help with a project, drive someone around or help in the kitchen. He never missed an opportunity to be kind. In recent years he particularly enjoyed his walks and crib games with his recently deceased brother-in-law Tom Merritt.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday May 18th, 12:15pm at St. Ignatius Church, 1288 Bedford Hwy. Reception to follow. Interment to take place in Oakridge Memorial Gardens following the reception.

 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society for their continued research or a charity of your choice.
