Robert David (Bob) Sherbino

Leading Seaman Electrician's Mate, RCN

Died: 06 Jul 2023

SHERBINO, Robert David (Bob) - With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Robert David Sherbino, age 88 on July 6, 2023. He leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 65 wonderful years, Helen. Also two eternally grateful children, Terry and Tracy (Lewis). Robert was born in Winnipeg and spent his youth there, joining the Royal Canadian Navy at 17 to "see the world". He was a veteran of the Korean conflict and upon returning to Winnipeg, joined the Winnipeg Fire Department where he served for 37 years until retiring as District Chief. He and Helen relocated to Penticton for their retirement, and enjoyed many happy and fullfilling years here. Robert was a long time volunteer with Special Olympics and established many relationships that lasted to this day. Robert was athletic, a football player, swimmer and softball coach for the Winnipeg Fire Department Smoke Eaters. A lover of music and blessed with a pleasant singing voice, Dad would often enliven the room with a tune from any number of musicals, or 1950's ballads from his heyday. He and Helen were regular attendees of the Penticton Elvis Festival. A kind man, Robert will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, an openness to all he met, an easy wisdom, keen sense of humor and charming disposition. Robert was the youngest of large close knit family - the last to now join his two brothers and four sisters. Truly the end of an era. Robert will be terribly missed by Helen, Terry, Tracy (Lewis), and all the friends he accumulated during his long, fruitful journey. Thanks for being the best husband and father anyone could ask for. Until we meet again.... (Okanagan Valley Newspaper Group 14 Jul 2023)
