NORTON, James Reid (Jim) - Age 83, of Berwick, Kings Co. His family is sad to announce that he passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on July 19, 1939, Crapaud, Prince Edward Island, he was a son of the late Edward R. and Edith E. (Cannon) Norton. Surviving are sons, Michael (Rhonda) Norton and Christopher (Katherine Winlo) Norton; step daughters, Judy (John) Robidoux, Linda (Greg) Doucette and Brenda (Glenn) McGrath; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, the former Shirley Haase; second wife, the former Pauline A. Johnson; brother, Donald “Don” (Edith) Norton. Jim served as an officer in the Canadian Navy in the early 1960s. He later became a history teacher at Middleton Regional High School. Jim later taught Communications at NSCC in Middleton and he continued there as a Guidance Counselor after obtaining his master’s degree. He was a long-time member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Middleton, where he served as a lay minister. Jim and Pauline spent many winters in Florida, where he was known for volunteering. He would also volunteer at the Berwick Food Bank while at home. Jim and Pauline enjoyed travelling and had trips to places like Ireland, Portugal and across Canada. Jim was also fond of train travel and did so often. There will be no visitation. All are welcome to attend a service in celebration of Jim’s life at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 15th, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448. Rev. Canon Kenneth Vaughn will be officiating, with a reception to follow. Interment will be at Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Middleton. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to Valley Hospice Foundation, Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, I.W.K. Health Centre Foundation or to your favourite charity.
