SLAUNWHITE, Nelson Eugene - It is with heart felt sadness that we announce the passing of Nelson on Thursday, June 8th 2023 at the Dartmouth General Hospital at age 89.

Nelson was born in Halifax, NS on September 14th, 1933 to the late Moyle & Gladys (Boutlier) Slaunwhite. Nelson is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley (Galton); son Joel (Ann) Slaunwhite, Lawrencetown and predeceased by son Philip (Lynn) Slaunwhite, Lawrencetown. He is also survived by his brothers Randy (Darlene),Bridgewater & Leonard (the late Milley) Slaunwhite, Ontario. Predeceased by sister Lorraine (Earl) Bachman. He was especially cherished by his grandchildren; Matthew & Sarah Slaunwhite (Joel) ; Holly & Erin (Philip) Slaunwhite, along with his two great grandson’s Nathan (Matthew) Perrin-Slaunwhite & Thomas (Holly) Slaunwhite.

Nelson was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, retiring after 25 years of service. He then went on to work for the Canada Post for 10 years.

Nelson will be forever known for his love for Lake Charlotte, where he and is wife Shirley made wonderful memories at their cottage. He enjoyed fishing and playing guitar around the campfire, during their many years there.

In the winter, he spent countless Saturday nights playing pool with his two sons and often wishing and praying for the Toronto Maple Leaf’s to win a game.

During the summer he enjoyed watching the Toronto Blue Jay’s baseball games with his wife, while the two of them yelled at the tv every time the team made bad plays (which was quite often). He was a lover of animals, in particular his late dog Rusty. A jack-of-all trades, there was nothing he couldn’t fix or nothing he wasn’t scared to attempt.

Many of his Sunday afternoons as of late were spent beating his Son, Joel, in many crib games.

Nelson was an honourable, loveable and kind man. He will deeply be missed by all. The world may have lost a wonderful man but heaven gained an incredible angel.

Donations in Nelson’s memory can be made to the Canadian Red Cross or charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday 16th June 12pm-2pm in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. (Atlantic Funeral Home Dartmouth)
