SHATFORD, George Arnold, Motor Mechanic A1131, RCNR, died 17 Apr 1945, HMCS STADACONA - Son of Oliver and Flora Shatford; husband of Pauline Shatford, of Halifax.

 

George Shatford was admitted to hospital on 11 Apr 1943 after suffering from heart failure from strenuous activity unloading cargo from a burning ship. He developed kidney failure and was discharge on 10 Mar 1944 Class E as medically unfit for naval duty.  He died in Camp Hill Hospital on 17 Apr 1945.

 

MM Shatford is buried in the St. James Cemetery, Fox Point, NS.

 

George's brothers Glen Avard Shatford and Henry Blaine Shatford also served in the Navy. His brother Percy Shatford served in the Halifax Rifles.
