BELSKY, John - It is with profound sadness that the family of John Belsky announces his passing, at Veteran's Memorial Lodge (Broadmead), Victoria, on Wednesday, 20 September 2023. He died peacefully. His was a long life, well lived.

John was born 14 July 1923 in Mossy River, Manitoba to Paul and Pearl (Kisyel) Belsky. He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Simone (Marquette) and his nine brothers and sisters; Walter, Nellie, Mary, Cassie, Lena, Annie Joe, Nick and Miron.

He left Mossy River for Ethelbert, MB with his family at a young age. At sixteen John took a train from MB and made his way to an uncle in Victoria, BC. His first job was at a sawmill, Lemon Gonnason. In 1943, he joined the Navy, and served on the minesweeper, Blairmore, and the aircraft carrier, Puncher.

Following the war John went back to working at the sawmill, and worked in the lumber industry until retirement in 1989.

John was a skilled craftsman and built the four homes his family lived in. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Colwood Volunteer Fire Department and the Langford Legion. Upon his retirement, he and Simone enjoyed traveling, especially to Arizona. In later life John enjoyed organizing shuffleboard at the Saanich Senior's Centre.

John is survived by his four children; Loraine (Guy), Richard (Bell), David (Copper) and Sherri, five grandchildren, his seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Special thanks to the staff at Veteran's Memorial Lodge (Broadmead).
