LUCAS, Donald Owen, Sto 2c, V60018, RCNVR, MPK - 29 Apr 1944, HMCS ATHABASKAN - Son of W. H. Owen Lucas and Josephine Elizabeth Lucas, of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The province of Manitoba honoured Stoker Lucas by naming Lucas Lake in his honour.

 

Donald was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He attended the Grosvenor, Robert H. Smith and Kelvin Schools. Two brothers are with the Canadian armed services, a twin brother, Ronald C. Lucas, a University student and a member of the Naval Training detachment, and Lieut. Jeffery Lucas with the Canadian army.

 

Stoker Lucas died when his ship, HMCS ATHABASKAN, was torpedoed and sunk in the English Channel.

 

Donald's brother Ronald Lucas also served in the Navy during the Second World War.
