REEKIE, Gordon Douglas - Passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Veteran's Residence on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at the age of 86. Lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend Joyce of 63 years. Much loved father of Donna and husband Garry; granddaughter Amy and husband Jason. His daughter Denise and husband Paul; granddaughter Samantha and grandson Elliott and fiancee Jessica. Survived by his sister Helen McNeill of Stratford and sister-in-law Mary Reekie. Gordon was predeceased by his brother Robert Reekie and sister-in-law Madeline and brother George Reekie. Gordon will also be lovingly remembered by all his family and friends. He was a Veteran of WWII, Navy Combined Operations, European Theatre, D-Day Veteran. Well known in Dairy Industry and Labour Relations for 35 years where he served on many joint action committees of Labour and Management Groups dealing with Health & Safety and Labour Relations. International Union Representative for R.W.D.S.U. when he retired in 1987. He gave so much and demanded so little. A man whose character, wisdom and honour made him loved and respected by his family, friends and everyone else he met. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre that took such excellent care of Gordon and made these past six months so happy for him. Friends will be received at Pine Hills Cemetery & Visitation Centre, 625 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough (north of St. Clair Ave. E., 416-267-8229) on Sunday, August 14th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Complete Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Monday, August 15th at 1 p.m. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations to Sunnybrook Veteran's Foundation or your favourite charity would be appreciated.
