Vernal Weldon Smith

 

Petty Officer 1st Class, RCN / C.A.F. (Navy)

 

Born: 05 Feb 1937, Moncton, New Brunswick

 

Died: 27 Oct 2023

 

SMITH, Vernal Weldon - Vernal was born and raised in Moncton, NB. The son of the late Austin and Ada Smith, brother of the late Robert Smith.

 

He leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Dawn (nee Steeves). He will be deeply missed by his son Dean (Dawn) and daughter Letitia (Terry), grandchildren, Candice, Deanna, Vern and Deaner, his 6 great-grandchildren, also his nephews Michael and Shawn. Vernal also loved Leah, Paul and Kenneth.

 

Vernal served in the Canadian Navy from July 1957 to May 1978, retiring as Warrant Officer. He then joined the Nepean Police as a dispatcher from 1978 to 1998.

 

He loved spending time with family. Enjoyed travelling, canoeing at the Lake, motorcycling and being a member of the Canadian Aviation Historical Society.

 

Our heartful thank you to the Doctors and Staff at St. Vincent Hospital for their personalized care and support and to those who visited Vernal, for their kindness and support.

 

Family and friends are invited to join us at Woodvale Pentecostal Church at 205 Greenbank Road on Thursday, November 2, 2023. Viewing will take place at 10:30 a.m. until service time at 11:30 a.m. Reception will follow with in the Church from 12:30-1:30. With Interment to follow at Capital Memorial Gardens at 2:00.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Vernal's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society. (Arbor Memorial 01 Nov 2023)
