George Frederick Grosvenor

GROSVENOR, George Frederick - After a long and courageous battle with cancer, our beloved father George passed away at home early morning Oct 30th, 2023. He passed in peace with family at his side. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia and raised in the west, George came to Nova Scotia in his early 20's as a member of the Canadian Navy. George was loved and respected by all who knew him. George was the kindest person we all knew. He was a loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother.

 

He is survived by his brother (Richard), sisters (Edith & Carol), his children Richard (Tara), Michelle Thompson (Bill), & Krista. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ryan (Bronwyn), Garrett, Coleman, and great-grandson Garrsion.

 

George is predeceased by his parents William and Marie Grosvenor, his sister Sharon, and his loving wife of 50 years Louise Hickey Grosvenor.

 

George was a long serving member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 24 years as a photographer with another 15 years as a civilian based at Stadacona. During his service, George received several letters of commendation over his long career. He was a proud servant of his country instilling this patriotism in his family. Every remembrance day, he took his children to services to honor the fallen. His son Richard, followed him into service and his grandson Garrett honorable serves today in the Canadian Armed Forces.

 

George enjoyed time traveling, camping, and spending many hours in his garden. The many trips to the provincial and federal parks, and Disney World will never be forgotten by his family. George was selfless, kind, and generous. George was an active member of his local Catholic Parish and with his wife Louise spent many hours volunteering and giving to the community. He was active with Feed Others of Dartmouth, making sandwiches for other in need. He frequently walked around neighborhood picking up trash and keeping his community clean. George was a soft spoken, kind, and selfless leader in his community wherever he lived.

 

Our family would like to thank Victoria General Medical Day unit for their kindness to our father during his battle. Also we share this grief with George's companion of the last 7 years, Janice White.

 

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please donate blood to The Canadian Red Cross. George gave blood his in entire life, having donated over 100 times. You may also give a donation to The Food Bank. Funeral mass will be celebrated 1:00 pm. Friday November 3, 2023 at Saint Peters Roman Catholic Church, 10 Maple Street. Dartmouth. (Dartmouth Funeral Homes)
