WARD, Leslie Lt (SB), O-76040, RCNVR, MPK - 29 Apr 1944, HMCS ATHABASKAN - Son of Robert and Elsie May Ward, of Toronto, Ontario; husband of Margaret D. Ward, of Toronto.
Lieutenant Leslie Ward, former Toronto newspaperman, who was reported missing when H.M.C.S. Athabaskan was sunk in the English Channel on April 29, 1944, is now presumed dead, according to the latest navy casualty list. Lieut. Ward's widow, the former Margaret Neaum lives on Victoria Park Ave. with their two sons, Peter, 14 a member of the Toronto Sea Cadet corps, and John five. Lieut. Ward was the son of Robert and Elsie May Ward, Norway Ave., Toronto, Ontario. Attached to the R.C.N.'s public information department. Lieut. Ward had gone aboard only a few hours before the torpedoing. Born in Leeds, England, he came to Canada with his parents when he was 12. He went overseas early in 1944.
