John Bracken

Died: 09 Dec 2023

 

BRACKEN, John - passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on December 09, 2023, at the age of 82. Born in St. Lambert, Quebec, on January 19, 1941, he was the 5th of 13 children, of the late George and Marjorie Bracken.

 

John's quiet strength and unwavering love leaves behind an indelible mark on those who were fortunate to know him. John is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Carolyn (Newhook), daughter Heather (Gerard) Grout, son Robert, grandchildren Kristen (Stewart), Zaun, and Justin (Stephanie) Grout. John is also survived by brothers Bruce, Gordon, David, and Rick, and sisters Marilyn, Nancy, Elizabeth, and Stephanie.

 

John came from a large, close knit family. He loved growing up on a farm alongside his siblings. In his professional life, John was known for his hard work and dedication. He served in The Royal Canadian Navy for 25 years, retiring as Chief Petty Officer. Beyond the uniform, John was a beloved family member and cherished friend. He was a kind hearted, gracious and steadfast man with a great sense of humour. As a devoted family member, he stood as the pillar of support for his loved ones.

 

John loved the outdoors and was happiest in the garden. He took great pride in stewarding the land and turned his garden into a vibrant oasis of beauty and tranquility. His garden was a testament to his ability to bring life and beauty to the world around him.

 

John will be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends. His legacy will remind us to live a life of meaningful acts of love and service. He will be missed dearly.

 

There will be a private family service. Memorial donations may be made to Feed Nova Scotia, The Canadian Red Cross or a charity of your choice.
