WHYTE, John William, AB, V50134, RCNVR, MPK - 21 Aug 1944, HMCS ALBERNI - Son of John William and Jessie Ann Whyte, of Roblin, Manitoba; husband of Marguerite Lillian Whyte, of Fort Frances, Ontario.

 

AB Whyte died when his ship, HMCS ALBERNI, was torpedoed and sunk in the English Channel on 21 Aug 1944 by U-480, southeast of the Isle of Wight. Fifty-nine of her ship's company lost their lives.

HMCS CHIPPAWA - Enlisted 23 Dec 1941. Commenced Active Service 14 Feb 1942 as an Ordinary Seaman (V.S.), RCNVR

HMCS ST HYACINTHE - Drafted to ST HYACINTHE 14 Apr 1942

HMCS CORNWALLIS - Drafted to CORNWALLIS 06 Aug 1942

HMCS ALBERNI - Drafted to ALBERNI 04 Oct 1942
