Summary of BOI report - AB Babiuk disappeared from HMCS Cape Scott on the night of 29 Sep 1965 after having been ashore with shipmates and had been drinking. He had returned to the ship on his own, but needed help boarding the ship via the very steep brow. The QM judged that Babiuk did not need any assistance to get to his bunk. He was last seen between 2230 and 2315 on the upper deck. He was reported missing from hands fall-in at 0755. His bunk had not been slept in. Ship's divers and an operational diving team conducted surface and underwater searches. Searches continued over a period of two days without finding his body.

Following the departure of HMCS CAPE SCOTT, AB Babiuk's remains were recovered and positively identified on 8/9 Oct 1965. AB Babiuk's body was repatriated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada for burial.
