NIXON, Helen Janet (née WHITE) - born March 30, 1940, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, died February 13, 2024, at the age of 83 in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Preceded in death by parents, Andy and Julia White; husband, Michael Nixon and brother, Ron White. Survived by sons, John (Amy) of Boca Raton, FL, David (Joyce) of Greenfield MN, and Michele of Bloomington, MN; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Alexandra, Delilah and Violet.

Helene (or Helen as her parents and relatives called her) grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She graduated from the University of Manitoba where she played basketball and, was in her own words just two weeks ago, a "star player". She joined the Royal Canadian Navy reserve in Winnipeg assigned to HMCS Chippewa where she was introduced to another reservist – Mike Nixon. They fell in love, married and gave birth to John, David and Michelle. The family moved from Canada to the US, and after a couple of Midwest stops, they settled in Plymouth, Minnesota. Helene was the quintessential Midwest homemaker (which means she could make a mean Bundt cake). She was a prolific and eclectic artisan. Her paintings and crafts eventually became not just a business but gained her entry into fairs and shows and won her a slew of ribbons. Helene was kind, intelligent and in true Nixon form, had a dry, sardonic wit. She will be missed.

While the family has decided not to have a funeral or service, if you might be moved to offer gifts honoring Helene's life, we encourage you to make donations to The Dementia Society or by simply offering spontaneous gifts from hope and compassion whenever the opportunities arise.
