Died: 26 May 2005, Winnipeg, Manitoba

 

WEIR, Geraldine Joyce (Geri) (née SOBOVITCH) - died peacefully at her home in Winnipeg on May 26, 2005 surrounded by her family. Born on March 27, 1940 at Libau, MB to Andrew and Katie Sobovitch. Geri was raised and attended school in Libau. Geri was a former member of HMCS Chippawa. For the past 32 years, Geri was employed at the Behavioural Health Foundation. She was the founder of the Behavioural Health Foundation court communicator system; bringing credit to both herself and the Foundation. With the support of the judicial system, she was instrumental in helping thousands resolve addictions issues. The system Geri developed is strong and will remain in place for many years. Geri was predeceased by her father Andrew and her brother Larry. She is survived by her mother Katie Sobovitch; her husband Lorne; daughter Tobi; son Bob and wife Shannon. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1 at Behavioural Health Foundation, 35 Ave., de la Digue, St. Norbert. The family would like to express their sincerest thanks to the Palliative Care Unit for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Geri's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society.  (The Winnipeg Free Press 28 May 2005)
