ROBINSON, Jack Dempsey - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Jack Dempsey Robinson on December 1, 2024, at the age of 93. He was predeceased by his wife Hetty in 2020. He is survived by his five children - Debbie (Dave), Daryl (Sue), Doug (Kathie), Chris (Pauline) and Erin (Marcus). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, with one more on the way due in February.
Dad was a very dedicated, loving, and generous husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Jack started his adult life serving in the Royal Canadian Navy and was deployed during the Korean War. It was while on leave from the Navy that he met the love of his life, Hetty (Evans) and decided to stay and make Abbotsford his home.
Jack had a strong sense of justice; hence he had a 35-year career in the Canadian Customs and then as a commissionaire at both the Abbotsford and Mission Hospital until retiring in 1994. Jack was never shy to stand up for someone who was not treated fairly.
While his children were growing up, he was active as a coach (among other things) in minor softball and minor hockey. He was also involved for many years with the Bantam International Hockey Tournament.
Jack was a loving husband and father but seemed to excel as a grandfather and great grandfather, fondly known as Grandpa Jack. He donated money to the libraries of the schools where Debbie and Kristin worked, and where his great-grandchildren attended. Jack spent his last days at Holmberg House Hospice surrounded by all 5 of his children as well as many of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. A celebration is being planned for Dad and Mom in March. Mom died during covid, and a celebration could not be held at that time. In lieu of flowers, donations to Holmberg House Hospice would be greatly appreciated. (The Abbotsford News 01 Dec 2024)
