GENTLES, Leonard Francis - Age 72, of Greenwood, Kings, Co., got his legs back when he passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 24th, 2014, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born on September 22, 1942 in Halifax, he was a son of the late Arthur and Laura (Horne) Gentles. He was a retired member of the Sackville and District Fire Department. He also served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 13 years. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus in Lower Sackville, a member of Knights of Columbus in Greenwood, amateur radio operator (VE1 LEN), a former Morristown Community Center President, former Legion members; square dancer, and a permanent fixture of Greenwood Mall. He is survived by his wife, the former Mildred Short; his daughters, Veronica (Jason) Chesley, Yvonne Keneford, Christina (Kenny) Stokes and Lauralee Blank (Brad Ferrish); 10 grandchildren; brothers, Don (Eva), Halifax; laurie (Genevieve), Halifax; Jack (Betty), Trenton, Ont.; Ronnie, Halifax; sisters, Gloria Dempsey, Halifax; Paulette (Lowell) Goulden, Halifax. He was predeceased by his sisters, Florence, Bev and Betty-Lou. There will be no visitation by request. Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 29th, in Queen of Heaven Chapel in Greenwood, Father Rory MacDonald will be officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in Oakridge Memory Gardens, 1087 Old Sackville Rd., Lower Sackville. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
