CARTY,  Reynolds Murphy (Wink) - 92 of Kingsport, Kings Co. passed away peacefully, Saturday, August 24, 2013 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville., surrounded by his family. Born in Habitant, he was the son of the late Harry E & Scellia Anne (Sherman) Carty; the last surviving member of his family. Reynolds was a WW II veteran, with the Royal Canadian Navy, where he cooked during the war. After the war he was a cook at the VG Hospital in Halifax and the Kings County Hospital, Waterville, where he met his wife, Maureen. They married on August 23, 1952 and eventually moved to Kingsport where he opened Carty's Barber Shop in Canning. While barbering, he also joined the commissionaires doing work at Grand Pre, Aldershot and Kings Regional Vocational School. Reynolds was 'The Canning Barber' for 54 years, until the age of 91 where he also offered free history lessons and chit chat with each haircut. He was also a member the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 6 Kentville, member of the Emmanuel United Church, Kingsport, where he was actively involved as Sunday School superintendent for 16 years, and Trustee/Treasurer of Habitant Cemetery. He enjoyed helping out with Kingsport Gala Days and spending countless lovely days with friends and family. He loved camping, going to dances and helping other people; if you needed something done you only had to ask. 'What else is there to live for but helping other people' RM Carty. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maureen (Webber); daughters, Mariann Ward, Kentville; Donna Jackson, Medford; son, Tim (Anne Comeau), Meteghan; granddaughters, Amanda Jackson (Matt Quinn), Coldbrook; Jessica and Ashley Carty, Meteghan; grandsons, Greg (Kim) Ward, Canning; Mark Ward, Enfield; Joe (Lynn) Jackson, Medford; Nick (Brittany Green) Jackson; Truro; great-granddaughter, Lily Ward and great-grandson, Easton Quinn; sister-in-law, Carrie Carty, Meaford, Ont; many nieces and nephews. Reynolds was predeceased by brothers, John (Jack); Clark (Bub); sister, Marion (Mitz) by 10 days. Cremation has taken place under the care & direction of the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Coldbrook. No visitation or memorial service by request. Private family interment will take place in Habitant Cemetery. Donations may be made to Heart & Stroke; Emmanuel United Church, Kingsport or to a charity of choice. The Carty family would like to thank everyone for the endless support.
