DAY, Stanley Gordon, LVA, 40513, RCN, MPK - 22 Oct 1940, HMCS MARGAREE - Son of Richard Thomas Day and Phoebe Day, of Victoria, British Columbia; husband of Eileen Violet Day, of Victoria.

 

Leading Victualling Assistant Day died when his ship, HMCS MARGAREE, was struck by the freighter SS Port Fairy while in convoy and was sunk. 143 of her crew were lost, 86 of them were survivors of HMCS FRASER.

 

Leading Victualling Assistant Stanley Gordon Day, age 21 was born and educated at Victoria High School, Victoria, B.C. He joined the Navy on 01 Sep 1937 and was a star basketball player for the Navy team.  Before joining the Navy he served in the First Battalion, Canadian Scottish in 1936 and part of 1937.  He married Eileen Violet Peden on 06 Nov 1939  He is survived by his wife Eileen Violet Peden and a three week old daughter Sharon.
