SMITH, Delbert Mitchel - 95, Oxford Cumberland Co., passed away peacefully in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst, on Saturday, March 17, 2007, with his loving wife and family by his side. Born in Oxford in 1911, he was a son of the late Harry M. and Florence J. ( Forbes) Smith. He was employed with Oxford Foundry and Machine Company Limited, Oxford, as a machinist until the time of his retirement. He was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy, serving as a petty officer during the Second World War. He was an adherent of Trinity United Church, Oxford. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Bertha H. Black; sons, Philip (Irene) Smith, Hubley N.S.; Allison (Starlene) Smith, Crowes Mills N.S.; daughters, Lynn (Bill) Gray, Frankford Ont.; Mary Lee (Michael) Trenholm, Kanata, Ont.; Bonnie (Tony) Dawe, London, Ont.; grandchildren, Trevor, Tiffany, Gregory, Kevin, Danielle, Richard, David, and Alexander; sister, Barbara Lunn, Oxford; brothers, C. Forbes Smith, Oxford; Vaughn (Doris) Smith, Dartmouth; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Potter, and brother Kenneth Smith. Visitation will be held today from noon until time of the funeral service at 2 p.m., both in Allen's Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford, with Rev. Gary MacDougall officiating. Interment will take place in Oxford Pine Grove Cemetery at a later date. Donations may be made to Trinity United Church Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.
