COOPER, Joseph Bernard - Son of John S. & Catherine (McDonald) Cooper.  Husband of Margaret Barbara Beazley - married on 25 January 1940, Halifax, NS.

 

Joseph Bernard Cooper worked with the Department of National Revenue's Preventive Service (Customs & Escise) in NS from April 1930 until it merged with the RCMP in April 1932, creating the RCMP Marine Section. He rose from the rank of Special Constable to Chief Petty Officer in 1934, to Skpper in 1937 and to First Officer in 1938.

 

At the outbreak of WWII, he was discharged from the Force and transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN). He was demobilized in May 1945 at the rank of Skipper Lieutenant and rejoined the RCMP in August 1945. He was a crew member of the Police Vessel "St Roch" and retired from the Force in July 1952 at the rank of Staff Sergeant.
