In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
LAMBERT, Darald Wayne - passed away on May 28, 2025, at the age of 75 in Victoria, BC. Darald is survived by his family from his first marriage: his daughter, Marsha Lambert of Edmonton, AB, and grandson, Galen Lambert of London, UK; and his son, Michael Lambert (Cara Lambert) and granddaughter, Astrid Lambert of Edmonton, AB. He is also survived by his current wife, Cathy Lambert of Shawnigan Lake, BC, and their son, Greg Lambert (Crystal Ferguson) of Victoria, BC, along with granddaughters, Samara and Leanna Lambert of Victoria, BC. Darald was predeceased by his father, George Rufus Lambert, and his mother, Della Lambert. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Lois Lambert, their baby Kevin Lambert — a loss that forever changed the course of their family and left an enduring mark on our hearts. Darald's early adult life was shaped by service to his country. He proudly served in the Royal Canadian Navy aboard the HMCS Terra Nova, deployed to the South East Asian region. He spoke of the camaraderie and challenges he faced during his military service, he enjoyed the opportunity to travel, and many of those experiences shaped his worldview. His ship returned just in time for the birth of his only daughter in 1973. His grandson Galen Lambert, inspired by this legacy, also enjoyed serving in a CIC capacity. Dad's lessons on discipline were also learned early by his children, who were taught to make their beds in such a way that he could bounce a quarter on them. Darald was also deeply involved in his community, especially through coaching. He spent many years coaching soccer for both Gorge FC and Prospect Lake, as well as many evenings on the diamonds at Layritz Little League for softball and baseball teams. Always on the sidelines in well-worn sneakers, he could be counted on to show encouragement, challenge us to push harder, and celebrate our victories. He was both our toughest coach and our biggest fan. An echo of his voice still reverberates within us during moments when we need to "dig deep" through life's challenges. Over the years, Darald worked with contractors from various trades, and we have fond childhood memories of spending time with him in the paint factory, learning colour theory and marvelling at the machines mixing paint. He approached his work with the same dedication and determination he applied to every aspect of his life. He valued craftsmanship - whether it was in the first home he built us on 3681 Rowland Avenue, the teams he coached, or the birdhouses he created as a therapeutic outlet during times of grief. While circumstances have led to distance between us in recent years, we mourn the man who was such an essential part of our lives and who shaped the people we have become as adults. There will be a celebration of life at Bright Angel Park in Duncan, on June 26 from 1-3 pm. With love, Marsha and Michael Lambert (The Victoria Times Colonist 24 Jun 2025)
