In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
PRIEST, George Albert - in his 91st year, of Newmarket, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Southlake Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Toronto, Ontario to Philip and Lydia Priest, he lived most of his life in Toronto before moving to Newmarket in 1987. George was an incredibly caring and loving man who deeply treasured his family. He was a proud and dedicated Navy Veteran, one of the last surviving members of those that served his country during World War II, namely on the beaches of Normandy. He was also very proud of his long career as an electrician and his several decades of service with the electrical division of the Toronto Board of Education. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, cottage life, and spending time with his family. George was very proud of his children, Diane Priest of Newmarket, and Ronald Priest of Stouffville. He is also survived by his grandchildren Allen and Ashley; his second wife June and her sons Gordon, Scott, Guy, and Steve; his loving sister June, her husband Heinz, their children Andrew and Daniela, Daniela's husband Matthew and their children Emma and Robby; his nephew Philip Priest; and many friends along the way. George is also predeceased by his first wife Adele, his children Debbie and Darlene; his brother Kenneth, his sister-in-law Verna, and nephew Jim. Special mention to George's in-home caregiver, Grace Kwarteng, who tended to George tirelessly and selflessly; and to all the wonderful caregivers that helped along the way. Two visitations will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main Street South, Newmarket. The Funeral Service will be Thursday, June 13th, beginning at 2 p.m. Reverend Pam Trondson will officiate. Burial will be at the Queensville Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Doane House Hospice or in care of the Priest Family. (The Toronto Star 11 Jun 2013)
