In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar

Roger Derek Oake

C.A.F. (Navy)

Born: 01 Sep 1972          Died: 14 May 2025

OAKE, Roger Derek - 52, passed away suddenly on May 14, 2025. Roger served 16 years in the Canadian Navy and retired when he accepted a position at Cape Scott in 2007. He received two promotions while there. First as Supervisor and then to his last position as Work Centre Manager. Roger was a dedicated and conscientious employee and was well liked throughout his long career with DND. He did his best to be fair and to look after his “guys”.

He was a loyal and dedicated Leafs fan and was happiest when he was puttering around the yard or barbecuing at the trailer with a beer in his hand.

The only thing Roger loved more than the Leafs, was his family. His weekly phone calls with his dad and his lengthy Christmas Zoom calls with the whole family across Canada.

Roger’s most treasured possessions were his wife and his children. He and Cherryl were best friends and in 27 years together, never had even one real fight. He was fiercely proud of his children and would do anything for them. Theirs was a home filled with laughter, love and countless family meals around their table.

Roger will be dearly missed by his loving wife Cherryl, his two cherished children Chris (Rachel) and Taylor (Michael); all of Dartmouth.

He is survived by his father Rybert Oake and step-mother Beverley, his brother John (Kim) Oake all of Lewisporte NL; his brothers Jim Oake (Gaea) and Randy Oake, all of Toronto and his brother Rodney Oake (Bonnie) of Lower. Sackville. A special mention to Cherryl’s sister-cousin Jacquelyn (Chanse) Webster-Fortin, Zoey and Jacob who will miss him at campfires, barbecues and all other family occasions. He also leaves behind nieces, a nephew and other extended family.

Roger was predeceased by his mother Jessie Oake.

A public Visitation will be held at Atlantic Funeral Home 771 Main Street, Dartmouth on Wednesday May 21st; 6-8PM

A Chapel Service will be held at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth on Thursday May 22nd; 3PM with internment and reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in his name. (Arbor Memorial)
