Service information for:
Jim was born Vancouver, BC. His family moved to Victoria the same year as his father, Cecil R. Cockrill joined the Royal Canadian Navy in May 1933. Cecil served during the Second World War as a Leading Torpedoman and retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in May 1958.
Jim joined the Navy 01 Oct 1950 at HMCS Malahat, Victoria BC. Prior to joining the Navy Jim served with the HMCS Rainbow Sea Cadet Corps in Victoria West. He trained as a Victualling Stores man, and qualified as a CD(S) Clearance Diver (Ships). He spent 20 years service as a Supply Technician serving at various Naval Establishments and RCN Ships on the West coast.
After leaving the Navy he held various jobs between 1970 -1995, Rawlings Plumbing, driving tour Busses for Island Coach Lines, and driving Tank Trucks for fuelling companies.
He finally retired at age 62 for the second time. Presently he is a member of the Chief and Petty Officers Association located in Esquimalt - a volunteer organization whose motto is "Service To Others".
He
has two daughters, Charlene and Maureen; two grandsons James and Ryan; two
granddaughters, Amy and Emma; five great-grandchildren, Jolene, Lora,
