[He was in the 1st Block Draft] One of the first 50 Canadian Navy sailors to train in Britain with Australians. He spent his Navy years in submarines. He was stationed off the coast of Bermuda at the end of the Korean war. He met up with a few of his fellow sailors over the years. He was a member of the Submariner's Association of Canada.
At the close of his 33 year career with Caterpillar, he attained the position of Distribution Manager of Canada Caterpillar. His position involved visiting many Caterpillar dealerships across Canada. Two memories were the very tasty salmon in B.C. and running into his brother-in-law in Montreal. When offered an early retirement, he eagerly accepted. This allowed many years of enjoying his retirement. He maintained friendships with the co-workers he started with throughout the years.
Jack participated in marathons, triathlons, cross-country ski racing and cycling. A friend and he cycled around Lake Ontario, camping, in the 70s. His love of golf began at 75, he was great at putting. Cruises to the Bahamas, Florida Keys, Dominican Republic and, with Lynne, a winter docked in Charleston, SC was a highlight. Following sailing, 10 winters in Arizona included golf and being with friends and family.
Jack will be remembered as a loyal, kind, hard working man who enjoyed life.
