DUMENEY, Francis Rimmie - passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012, surrounded by his family, at his home in Fort Frances, Ont. He was born June 22, 1923 at the Gold Star Mine on Bad Vermilion Lake to the late Alfred and Aurilla Dumeney.

 

Frank went to school in Mine Centre to Grade 8, after which time he went to work as a cook's helper in the logging camps. Various other jobs followed. He served in the navy during the Second World War and shortly thereafter started working for the Department of Lands & Forest. He retired as a Lands Technician Senior 1 in 1979. Frank and Renée loved seeing people, and their home was always open to family and friends through the years. He enjoyed a long and healthy retirement, doing some seasonal work for several summers and travelling in the winter with Renée. They became snowbirds and spent 10+ winters down in Arizona and California. Last fall, he and Renée went to Europe and enjoyed a river cruise. Frank was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Many happy memories were spent at the lake in the summer time. Dad enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and telling stories. He also made the best baked bread.

 

Frank was predeceased by his two sons, Kevin (1959) and Shane (1979); as well as nine siblings and other relatives. Frank will be missed by his wife of 55 years, Renée Dumeney, along with daughters, Robin (Hugh) Dennis, Denyse (Sandy) Marshall, Tamara (Joe) McCabe, and ReNae (Randy) Moran; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren. Also by two sisters, Madonna Morrish and Clora McEvoy; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Williams and Jean (Chuck) Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A funeral mass was held Monday, March 19, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fort Frances, with Fr. Francis Pudicherry as celebrant. The honourary pallbearers were Tom Morrish, Bill McEvoy, Dave Chambers, and Roy Brown.
