In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
McROBERT, Charles Forrest - On November 30, 2023, in Spring Hill, Florida, Charles Forrest McRobert passed away surrounded by his family. Charles was born on February 4, 1941, in Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, to Sydney William McRobert and Julia Mary Birnie.
Charles grew up in Etobicoke with his parents and half-sister, June, who was nine years his senior. As a young man, his hobbies were building motorcycles, collecting coins and stamps, and avidly reading. After graduating from high school, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy. He was subsequently sent to Sir George Williams University (now the University of Concordia) as part of the Regular Officer Training Plan. He graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Physics. For the next four years, he served on various ships and taught at the Electrical School in HMCS Stadacona. While serving in the Royal Canadian Navy, he married his wife, Doreen McDonald, also an RCN officer, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
After his military service, Charles embarked on a successful career in manufacturing. He managed hundreds of company workers, always focusing on quality assurance. His dedication and expertise led him to establish his own business, Quality Practitioners, in 1992. The company provided training and certification services to companies seeking ISO 9000 (USA) and Z299 (Canada) certification. In 1996, Charles and Doreen moved to Florida to expand their business. With clients in Japan, Europe, Jamaica, the USA, Canada, and many other countries, he retired in 2012.
Charles was a man of many passions. He was an avid reader, always with a book in hand and stacks of books waiting to be read. His reading interests ranged from history and politics to physics, mathematics, science, biographies, and the military. He enjoyed listening to classical music and working in their vegetable garden. He loved animals and often fed ducks in a nearby pond. His passion for travel took him and his wife to many places in Europe and South America. He was filled with stories from his life's adventures and was exuberant about sharing them at family gatherings.
Charles was predeceased by his parents and half-sister and is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doreen; his children, Sheila Hobeck (Jeffery) of Oakville, Ontario, and Jason (Joeanne) of Sherwood Park, Alberta; and four grandchildren, Kyle, Sean, Cassidy and Madison.
