In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
RUSSELL, Richard Leo - Born on Christmas Day in Dartmouth to Richard Leo Russell and Teresa Dianysia (Farrell) Russell, Richard “Rick” Russell lived a life grounded in service, dedication, and love.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Rick joined the Navy at a very young age. After several years of service, he transitioned to the Reserves and later began a long and fulfilling career with Nova Scotia Power at the Tufts Cove plant. Over more than 30 years, he formed many lasting friendships and took great pride in his work and community.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ella d’Entremont; his sons, Travis (Eva) and Brian (Maude); and his brothers, John (Corinne) of Dartmouth, David (Jean) of Edmonton, and Kevin of Halifax.
Rick was also embraced by a large extended family through Mary: her daughters, Jolene and Julie; her stepchildren, Jeff and Janet; their partners; and eight cherished grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and by Lorna, the mother of Travis and Brian.
For the past eight years, Rick and Mary Ella were inseparable, sharing a life filled with love, companionship, and adventure.
A man of great discipline and passion, Rick was deeply committed to his fitness journey. He proudly achieved his black belt in Hapkido Street Combat in 2018. Rick loved a good deal, thrifting at Value Village and Frenchie’s.
Rick and Mary were also devoted members of AOK (Acts of Kindness), finding joy and purpose in delivering food to those in need. Donations in memory can be made to Act of Kindness (AOK).
Rick will be remembered for his strength, generosity, and the warmth he brought to everyone whose lives he touched.
A celebration of Rick’s life will take place at 1 pm Saturday, November 22, 2025, at The Gilded Courtroom, 403 Main St, in Yarmouth. (Sweeny's Funeral Home)
