WENTZELL, Eric David - Amid our loss and grief, the family of Eric David Wentzell, 95, of Lunenburg, (formerly of East LaHave), announce his passing on Monday, March 9, 2026 at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg.
Born in Lacombe, Alberta, he was a son of Percy and Phyllis (Bennett) Wentzell.
Eric started his seagoing career as a deckhand working for Capt. Freeman Beck (of East LaHave) on a small coastal freighter running cargo to Newfoundland. In time he joined the Royal Canadian Navy where he served for 25 years. Following that, he returned with his family to Lunenburg County where he was employed with local businesses until his retirement. Eric was a faithful member of the Trinity United Church, Rose Bay where he served as an Elder, a Steward and also enjoyed singing in the choir over a number of years.
Eric is survived by his loving wife, Doreen; daughter, Helen (David) Arenburg of Cambridge, NS and their family, Drew, Claire and Colin; son, Ian (Elana), East LaHave, their daughters, Allison (Jonathan), Pine Grove, Cara, New Cumberland; great grandchildren, Adrian and Talia as well as many nephews and nieces.
Besides his parents, Eric was predeceased by sister, Thelma Hartman; brothers, Owen, Roy, Neil; brothers-in-law Norman Hartman, Raymond Vickerson; sisters-in-law, Gwen, Mona, Avis Wentzell, Leila Vickerson; and infant brother, Allan.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy 3, Lunenburg and from where a service to celebrate Eric’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 17 at 2:00 pm, Rev. Katie Logan officiating. Interment will be in Creek Hill Cemetery, East LaHave.
