HANSEN, Verner (Vern) - is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Helen (Cattani). He is also survived by his loving daughters and their husbands, Diane and Joe Piechota, Catherine and Al Dyson, Laura and Richard Danelisky, and Verna and Glenn Brannan. Vern was admired and will be missed by his 5 grandchildren Cindie and Michael Hietanen, Stephenie and Allison Danelisky, Andrew Piechota, and his step-granddaughter Lindsay Dyson. Vern is also survived by his sisters-in-law Teresa Stortini, Margaret Cattani, Rita Cattani, and Toni Cattani. He is fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews. Vern was predeceased by his parents Anne and Hans (Harry) Hansen and his brothers and sisters Telef Hansen, Walter Hansen, Richard (Dick) Hansen, Emma Hamlin, and Laura Jones. Vern was born in Sellers Township, Ontario. He was raised in Lybster Township and moved to Pass Lake, Ontario when he was a young man. He proudly served in the Canadian Navy in WW II. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he began his lifelong commitment to civil service by working for the Ministry of Natural Resources. Memorable moments in his career included working on the construction of the Sibley Road into the Provincial Park, where he also served as the Park's first Park Ranger. His 37-year career fulfilled his passion for the outdoors. Later in his career, he coordinated the Junior Ranger Program, which he found enjoyable and rewarding work. Vern retired from the Ministry in May of 1983. His retirement included cherished family time, traveling with his wife Helen, golfing with friends and family, photography and creating beautiful pieces of furniture for the family.
