In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
HAMMILL, Norman George - 84, of Mitchell passed away at the Ritz Lutheran Villa, Mitchell on Sunday December 9, 2007.
Beloved husband of the late Ruth (Peters) Hammill (2003). Dear father of Adele (Kevin) Ellis of Lower Coverdale, New Brunswick, David (Suzanne) Hammill of Gravenhurst, John (Teresa) Hammill of Calgary and Elaine Brown (John Chambers) of Gravenhurst; loving grandfather of Maggie Ellis, Joe Hammill, Laura Hammill, Johnny Hammill, Kristy Hammill and Jacque Hammill; and great-grandfather of Leland and Mason; dear brother-in-law of Margaret Edwards, Verna Hammill, and Charlie Peters.
Predeceased by his parents James and Maggie (Halstead) Hammill, brother Ernest and sister Idella.
Norm grew up in Toronto, where he enlisted at HMCS York in 1942. He was called up when he turned nineteen and served as a Stoker 1st class on Landing Craft, and was part of the landing at Juno Beach on D-Day. After the war, he worked as a postal clerk at Postal Station "A" in Toronto for thirty-two years. Like many of his generation, he faced many difficult adversities like the depression and a world war, but whatever came at Dad, he faced it with a smile and a joke.
The family wishes to thank the staff of E3E at Stratford General Hospital for their compassionate and professional care. Also, it is almost impossible to thank all of the people who helped make the Villa home to Dad. There are too many people to name, who believe in and act on the mission statement of providing compassionate, quality care. However, special thanks to Lindy for your help and friendship this year.
Friends are invited to join the family in remembering Norm's life at the Lockhart Funeral Home Reception Centre, 116 Montreal St., Mitchell on Thursday 3-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Ritz Lutheran Villa would be appreciated and may be made through the Lockhart Funeral Home, Mitchell.
