In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
ANTON, John Peter - Loving Father of David (Deborah), John, and Kathy Lyons (Donald). Grandfather to Emily, Matthew, Shjon and Eric. Born in Jimbolia, Romania to parents John Anton and Elizabeth Kramer and sister Lillian. The family moved to Canada in 1929. At the age of 18, John joined the Canadian Navy and served overseas aboard HMCS Matane during the Battle of the Atlantic. His frigate was responsible for convoy duty and then joined a strike force hunting submarines in the North Atlantic. After the Germans surrendered, his frigate headed to Gibraltar, then through the Panama Canal to the South Pacific to join the US Naval Forces in their fight against the Japanese Navy. While en route, the Japanese surrendered and the war ended. The frigate patrolled the waters before taking John back home to Canada. John spent 34 years of his career at Union Gas as a residential sales rep. He won highest sales for the entire company multiple times. He often said that Union Gas was a great company to work for, with great coworkers who remained life long friends. He was a member of the retirees group for 42 years. John said he will miss his coffee group, the Legion hamburger group, his golf buddies, the retiree parties, and the great neighbours he had over the years. He always appreciated outings with friends and family. John was an avid reader and went to Budimir library on a weekly basis. John's own words, "Don't be sad! I've had a good life! Good kids and grandkids, good friends, good health and I travelled the world. What more could I ask for!" Thank you for the kindness offered with calls and visits to support him. Our Dad appreciated each and every one of you. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. If desired, donations can be made in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or The Heart and Stroke foundation. (The Windsor Star 04 Apr 2026
