In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
RAWLINGS, James Anthony - With great sadness, we announce the passing of a Husband, Father, and Grandfather.
James was born in Victoria, B.C. As a young man he joined the Navy. Once his Navy career was complete, he used the Navy education he earned and began his career in Telecommunications in Toronto. One day, he met Cheryl on a train in Montreal, and they then married in May 1969. After some time, they decided to move to Ladner and start a family. James began working for BC Tel/Telus and stayed with them for many years until he retired.
During the summers and especially once he retired, Jim and Cheryl could be found enjoying their time at their cabin on Machete Lake, with a fishing rod in hand. Besides fishing, his other favorite pastime was hunting, and he had a great love for dogs who enjoyed tagging along on his many adventures: Brandy, Char, and lastly, Brooke. Ask anyone, and they would confirm that James was known as a storyteller and Mr. Fix It. He was great at coming up with inventive ways to repair things or find new uses for something.
James is survived by his wife of 56 years, Cheryl; son Ian (Jasmine); daughter Kim; granddaughters Abigail and Sophia; and sister Joan. Special thanks to the Stern Family, friends, and Delta Hospice. A celebration of life will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Delta Hospice Irene Thomas Foundation. ( The Delta Optimist 23 Apr 2026)
