In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
DAVIS, William Evans (Bill) - passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Monday, April 22nd, 2019 at 91 years of age. Beloved husband of the late Myrne (nee O'Hara) Davis, cherished father of Mike Davis and father-in-law of Laura Stewart-Davis of Ottawa, and beloved grandfather of Allison, Ian and Connor.
LCdr Bill Davis (Ret.) was a Korean War Navy veteran and served as paymaster on the destroyer HMCS Cayuga. He continued serving with the Navy for many years, working in Halifax, Montreal and Washington. He then joined Treasury Board in the Public Service of Canada in 1968 and eventually retired from Supply and Services Canada in 1986. In retirement, he enjoyed a successful run as a wooden boat enthusiast, building and repairing (and riding in) canoes and power boats in Florida and Ontario for over 30 years.
Bill was a great friend, an avid teller of stories (some of which might have even been true) and a keen supporter of many organizations and businesses in and around his hometown of Brockville. He will be missed by many his friends in both Brockville and Ottawa.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Bill's life and reception at the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville, ON, on Saturday, May 4th from 11 am until 1 pm with tributes to Bill commencing at 11:30 am.
As expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Naval Memorial Trust (HMCS Sackville, P.O. Box 99000, Stn Forces, Halifax, NS, B3K 5X5) or St Paul's Anglican Church (12 Pine Street, Brockville, ON, K6V 2A9) would be appreciated. (The Recorder & Times 27 Apr 2019)
Ships served in: HMCS CAYUGA - Appointed to CAYUGA 26 Mar 1950 as a Lieutenant (S), RCN. Served in CAYUGA for her 1st Korean War Tour.
