In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
FLAHERTY, Charles William (Doc) - longtime resident of Sturgeon Lake, Alberta, passed away peacefully at Valleyview, Alberta on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the age of 87 years. Doc was born in Defoe, Saskatchewan, October 20, 1923. He grew up in Saskatoon and then served in the Royal Canadian Navy. On his return, he eventually found his longtime career in road construction. Doc went on to raise his family and settled in Sturgeon Lake, Alberta. In his latter years, he enjoyed his grandchildren, being a Ham Radio operator, fishing, gardening and his beloved pets. Doc will be lovingly remembered by his children Morgan (Judy) Flaherty, Doug (Yvonne) Flaherty, Brenda Beaton, Colleen Flaherty, Tracy (Randy) Dietrich and Lisa Webster (Eric Banks). Also 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 1 bun in the oven; sisters Shirley and Francis; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father William, mother Mary; brothers Norman and Stanley; sisters Marge and Kelley and his son Gerry. The funeral service will be held at Oliver’s Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Royal Canadian Legion.
