Died: 21 Jun 2026, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

HOULDEN, Gerald (Gerry) - age 100 (or as he liked to say 'in his 101st year'), passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026 (Father's Day) with family by his side.

Gerry was the third son of Percy Houlden and Ethel Houlden (Close), born on October 3, 1925 in Burnaby, B.C.

He is survived by his wife Junine, daughter Nancy (Chris), step-daughters Patti and Deanna (Rob), 2 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Gerry worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway for 4 years, Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve for 2 years, and retired from Chevron Canada as a marketing rep after 38 years.

During early retirement he joined a group of men and women to form a slow-pitch team that won gold medals in the first senior provincial tournament in Vernon in 1988.

As a proud Veteran he always participated in their parades on Veteran's Day.

For over 40 years he volunteered and will be remembered by many for the work he really enjoyed at Servants on Wheels Every Ready us USA & Canada (SOWERS), numerous churches in their kitchens, serving meals at Our Place, welcoming passengers at the Victoria Cruises ship terminal, tourists at the Victoria Tourist Bureau and Greeter at the gardens at Government House.

Gerry will be in our hearts forever.

To the members of the Palliative and Hospice teams our deepest gratitude.

Celebration of life to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to B.C. Children's Hospital Foundation.
