In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
McLAREN, George McIntosh (Barker) - With heavy hearts we remember our father having recently slipped beneath the waves of life to join his mates that went before him. Dad grew up on a farm near Flaxcombe, Saskatchewan until he joined the RCNVR in the summer of 1941. Having served in the Navy until the end of the war Dad then became a journeyman electrician, a lifelong vocation that took him across Canada and the U.S. As a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 61 in Ladner, BC, Dad thoroughly enjoyed meeting and swapping stories with fellow veterans. Never too shy to pull out his accordion, Dad was always the life of the party and usually the last man standing even in his twilight years. An avid fan of documentaries on science, technology and world war two, Dad would often forego sleep listening to late night radio shows that explored unsolved mysteries. It was with great pride and joy that Dad recently reunited with a big part of his family separated from him for so many years. Dad is survived by his sisters, Ida, Myrtle, Jean; and his sons, James, George, Robert, John and Mickey. His family does not mourn his death but rather celebrates his long life and the release of his spirit. At Dad's request there will be no funeral. For all those who knew and enjoyed George please join us in a celebrating his life to be held at Legion Branch 61 (4896 Delta St., Ladner, BC) on Friday, August 7th, 2009 between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. (The Saskatoon StarPhoenix 01 Aug 2009)
