In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
FISHER, Stanley Frederick - Dr. Stan Fisher of Upper Kingsburg, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on July 15.
Born in Windsor, Ontario, Stan's lifelong passion for music took him as a young man in the Royal Canadian Navy Reserves Band to global stages as an internationally recognized clarinet soloist. He held a Doctorate in Woodwinds from the University of Michigan and served as conductor of the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra. For over three decades, Stan was a beloved Professor of Woodwinds at Acadia University, proudly becoming the school's first Professor Emeritus.
Beyond his career, Stan was a global traveler, always returning to the wild beauty of his seaside home. He was happiest camping in the woods, sharing good food with friends, and his profound love of nature with his family.
Stan is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; his son, Stephen and daughter-in-law Haley; his daughter, Sarah and son-in-law Jona; his grandchildren, Priya, Mina, Kailash, and Roan; Kathy's Daughters, Laura and Natalie. He is also survived by his brother, Tom, and his nieces, Wendy and Karen.
In lieu of a formal service, friends, family, and students are invited to reflect on the cherished times they had together with Stan. Arrangements have been made with Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. (The Halifax Chronicle-Herald 17 Jul 2026)
