LOCKE, Dorothy Ellen (née WYATT) - died peacefully at Cassellholme Home for the Aged, North Bay, on Sunday, May 22, 2011. She was in her 88th year. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Lachlan Edwin Locke She was the beloved mother of Helen (John Haughton) and Hilda (Derek Curtis) of Callander, John of Novar, Elizabeth Galvin of Huntsville and Susan (David Sargent) of Bramalea and will be fondly remembered by eleven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her sisters Marjorie Locke (Charlie, dec.), Joan Barnes (Michael) and brother Philip Wyatt (Josephine, dec.). Dorothy Ellen Wyatt was born on July 28th, 1923 in Baldhu Kea, Cornwall, England. She came to Canada as a young girl with her family and they settled in Kirkland Lake. Dorothy was a WREN Pay Writer in the Navy from 1942-1945. She travelled between Victoria, BC and her final home base was HMC Avalon in Newfoundland. Just after the war she met an Air Force Officer named Lachlan Locke and they were married in November 23, 1946 and settled in Virginiatown. There, along with Lachlan's brother and his wife, they owned and operated Locke Hardware. According to Dorothy's wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral service was held at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Powassan, on Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Interment at St. Mark's Cemetery, Emsdale followed. If desired, donations may be made in Dorothy's memory to Sick Children's Hospital, St. Mary's Anglican Church or the Canadian Cancer Society.
