BADGER, Lawrence Richard (Larry) - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lawrence (Larry) Richard Badger, who passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026, in Penticton, British Columbia, at the age of 89. Born on May 6, 1937, in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Larry lived a life marked by dedication, quiet strength, and an unwavering love for his family. Larry leaves behind the love of his life and devoted wife of 55 years, Sherry. He will be deeply missed by his children: Michael and Mark (Wanda), Natasha, and Christopher (Florina). He was a proud grandfather to Brent (Amber), Xander, Mateo, Abbygale, and Cadmon, all of whom lovingly knew him as "Opa." He also leaves behind his cherished great-grandchildren, Briar, Braxton, Broderick, and Benjamin, who brought him great joy. He is also thoughtfully remembered by his sister and brother-in-law, Penny and Bill; his sister-in-law, Clara; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Larry was predeceased by his siblings Gilbert (Thérèse), Marion (Larry), and Ronald (Helen); his brother-in-law Peter; his daughter-in-law Sandi; and his beloved grandson Kyle. Larry proudly joined the Royal Canadian Navy on November 18, 1955, serving his country for twenty years before retiring with the rank of Warrant Officer. The discipline, integrity, and quiet resilience he developed during his military career stayed with him throughout his life. Following his retirement from the Navy, Larry settled in Penticton, where he enjoyed many years doing what he loved. He was an avid golfer and a proud member of the Penticton Golf & Country Club for more than fifty years. He also loved curling and looked forward to competing in bonspiels throughout the Okanagan Valley, enjoying the sport and the friendships it brought. Larry was a man of few words. Stoic by nature, he rarely sought the spotlight and was content to let his actions speak for themselves. While he often kept to himself, those who knew him best understood the depth of his love and commitment to his family. His steady presence, quiet dependability, and strong sense of duty were gifts that those closest to him came to cherish. To his grandchildren, he wasn't just Larry or Grandpa-he was Opa. They will remember him for his quiet support, his steadfast love, and the comfort of simply knowing he was always there. His legacy is one of strength, loyalty, and devotion to those he loved. In keeping with Larry's wishes, there will be no formal service. Those wishing to honour his memory are invited to make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada in his name. Larry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched. Though quiet in nature, the impact he made on his family and friends will be felt for generations to come.
