In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
WILSHAW, Reginald - Reginald was serving onboard HMS Cachalot during a port visit to Halifax, N.S. Canada. The 1st Canadian Submarine Squadron was the host. The Canadians invited four crew members from HMS Cachalot to participate in an Expedition of camping and canoeing along with the eight Canadians. They were on the Shubenacadie River when they were overtaken by the rise of the Tidal bore. One of the canoes overturned and the crew went into the water. Sadly, LS Wilshaw drowned and could not be revived.
In 1975 two members from HMCS Okanagan (while on a UK Deployment), who were on the Expedition laid a wreath on the grave of LS Wilshaw and visited his family. He is buried in the Waterlooville, Cemetery, Section 4, Grave 348 in Waterlooville, Hampshire, 55 Hulbert Rd, Waterlooville, UK. It is located outside of Portsmouth, UK.
