Haro Class Naval Tug - Large
The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) is pleased to announce the names of the four Naval Large Tugs, which are being built by Ocean Industries Inc. of Isle-aux-Coudres, Quebec, under the National Shipbuilding Strategy. Haro, Barkerville, Canso, and Stella Maris will provide important support to enable warship movements and provide fire protection for the RCN’s Pacific and Atlantic Fleets.
The steel cutting for the first tug began in September 2020, with formal construction following in November 2020. The first two tugs are expected to be launched in Isle-aux-Coudres, Quebec, in April 2022 and June 2022, respectively, with first deliveries expected by the fall of 2022.
The first two tugs (Haro and Barkerville) are scheduled to be delivered by sealift to the RCN’s Maritime Forces Pacific in Esquimalt, British Columbia, in 2022. The other two (Canso and Stella Maris) will sail to Maritime Forces Atlantic in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 2023 and 2024.

Barkerville - This name is taken from the Second World War-era Ville-class tug of the same name, which capsized and sank at the entrance of Bedwell Harbour, British Columbia, on December 17, 1945, while towing HMCS HESPELERespeler* to its mooring.
